“Writing and taking photos have become the main source of my exploration of the ever-changing life I live in.”

Hi, I’m Tavus. I call myself a global lady, because I get tired of explaining where I am from. But also, not living in the same country I was born in, and because traveling from country to country most of my life, has made it difficult to associate myself to one country. There are many women who could relate to me, I’m sure.

Born in Turkmenistan, I traveled to the US as a teenager to study and after my studies I lived in many different countries with my husband and kids. Now, I’m about to settle in the US, a country that has become a home away from home.

I studied anthropology and international affairs and went on to become a teacher in international schools and, most recently, in Zoom. I have two children who were born in two different countries, and who are now calling themselves American, when asked about their nationality. I wonder if that will change when they start living in America, since they are so used to being a foreigner.

I love talking about the concept of home, family, identity and career in an environment that never stops evolving, and is always challenging the traditional ways of living. This topic is especially delightful at a table of international restaurants I love to explore. I believe that making food is one of the most natural ways people subconsciously show their ancestry and their current state in progress.

My husband, luckily, enjoys coming along on my foodie adventures. Born in the US, he has also spent most of his life abroad. Now, while returning home, he is not sure if he feels like it is home or not.
